January 24, 2016

After a rough transition to the new year, I am back in shape and walking regularly. From the pain and training the reason for my pilgrimage is starting to come into focus. Surprising or not in some ways it involves a yearning for the more religious times of my youth. More on that later. For now I am spending more time planing how to break up my walking. Today I would like to share a chapter from Leslie Gilmore's excellant guide, Camino De Santiago: Camino Frances 2015. In this chapter he writes of breaking the first day, considered the most difficult, into two days. I, too, am considering this.

January 10, 2016

Second weeek of the new year, the year of my Camino, and I remain plagued by muscle problems.
Managed about a half schedule as I worked thru the problems and started to realize that the Camino may be more than I can do in the time I have alloted. Notice I did not say more than I can do. If it requires a second trip to finish so be it. Can you hear those faint strains of "Rocky" playing in the backround? Here is another Camino video for your enjoyment:

January 3, 2016
2016 has a magical ring as it is the year of my Camino. I'm back on track with my training after my left knee gave me a scare. I now believe it was a severe cramp coming from not listening to my body and pushing too hard. The Camino after all is definately not a sprint. More like 20 Marathons. I recieved several new guide books for Christmas from my son and I'm plowing through them. Each has something new to offer. It is only 117 days until my flight to Bilbao Spain and I am getting excited.
